Summer at Xanadu

Our Retired Flock

“Old Ladies” waiting to come in from Pasture ACR Leggers Roo Girl (age 22)

When our alpacas retire, they’ve got a home with us. We have 11 retirees ages 17 to 22 years old in our flock of 55 alpacas.
Roo is senior at 22. Most have given us a legacy of generations of descendants, though a few are rescues.
Some take an occasional job as a companion, and many still contribute fine fleece to our clip.
But regardless, for so long as they can have a good quality of life, we’re pleased to care for and enjoy them.

Keeping Everyone Cool

Summers are a quieter time since most of our breeding and birthing is in spring and fall,
but keeping everyone cool is always a challenge. Pregnant ladies & crias go on pasture at 7 am,
then line up around 11, file into the barn, cush in their favorite spots and chew their cud
until temps cool down in the evening. The evaporative cooler keeps the barn at 68 degrees even on the hottest days.
Sometime it’s hard to stay awake. The boys stay cool with shade and fans and wet downs.

Update on Our Sales List
If you haven’t seen the impressive group of young herdsires and the very good bred female package
we’ve posted to our sales list, take a look at our Alpacas for Sale page.

Partner News
We’re welcoming DJs Legendary Alpacas as our new partner with Rocky Bay
and Rancho Inca Alpacas as our new partner with TGF Royal Tribute.
Rancho Inca also co-owns Xanadu P Adorno with us.
All 3 boys now have the luxury of winters in Texas and spring through fall in Colorado.

Joining Our Herdsire Row
Our superstar young herdsire, Xanadu P Aristide

is for sale, but he’ll also begin his breeding career with us this fall, with only a few breedings available.
His older, full brother, Adorno’s, a carbon copy.
Adorno’s babies are arriving and they’ve been knockouts.
